Donald Ross was hired to design the 9’s of courses 1,2 and 3 in 1922 after Tom Bendelow was hired to do the original 18 in 1899. The clubhouse is situated at the top of a hill, where the course is then laid out on a the hill that goes down into a valley which consists of a creek that comes into play on many holes, especially the dog leg right par 4, 5th holes of the 3rd nine. The holes play down into the valley, then you finished each of the two nines climbing up the hill out of the valley. @bschneidergolf and his team @renaissancegolfdesign did a phenomenal job at opening this golf course up and bringing this Donald Ross gem back to life. Very bold and very fun. Expanded greens and fairways and the areas around the greens make it more enjoyable to find better angles off the tee to get to tucked pins easier, and requires creativity around the green. Very interesting green complexes that mostly play back to front, many false fronts, two-tired shelf greens, and the 5th on the 3rd nine also has biarritz like green that is angled to the right of you on the approach. You better have your A game with the wedges and short game, as the approach to the greens require precise accuracy and distance control, while around the greens it always seems as your putting up a giant slope to a pin on top of a tier, or a fast downhill putt where you have to be very creative to find ways to play the slopes and slow the ball down. Great tournament course and should be a great test for the ladies at the 2026 U.S Mid-Am.
