Nassau Country Club, Glen Cove, NY
One of the USGA’s original 50 founding members, it’s a course touched by many of the great architects. Tom Bendelow, Devereux Emmet, Seth Raynor, Hebert Strong, and recent work on green complexes (2012) and more recent bunker’s renovations done by the Fazio’s. Such good use of the ground game when this place gets firm and fast. Greens are some of the most pure out there and tee shots require a lot of thinking with big, bold, deep bunkers pinching most of the fairways. Every shot requires thought whether it’s around the green, iron, wedge, or tee shots. Thumbprint green and pure runoff green areas to tee boxes. This course only has 2 par 5’s, one doglegs to the left and one to the right. When I first arrived at this place, the first thought that came to mind when I looked at the bunkers is “Augusta National”. Such a classic golf course and one that requires the playing of the ground game which is my personal favorite kind of golf.
