Pelham Country Club, Pelham Manor, NY.
A 1921 Devereux-Emmet design which hosted the 1923 PGA Championship, won by Gene Sarazen. This place does such a good job at embodying the history they have and the great championship from 1923, that goes down as one of the best matches as Sarazen beat Walter Hagen in 38 holes. The course had to be re-routed many years ago after I-95 was constructed, changing the entire nature and routing of the course. There still remains original Emmet designed holes like the par 4 14th in the 1st picture.
@devries_designs_golf @devriesdesigns also did a great job at bringing back Emmet features as they did phenomenal work at turning bad holes into great holes like the 605 yard par 5 3rd, drivable 273 yard par 4 4th, par 4 12th, par 5 16th, and par 3 10th. A gigantic drainage pond was built along with a creek that meanders through the 3rd and 16th holes as those holes that use to be under water, now don’t face drainage issues any longer. Great original holes, crossing roads, crossing under the tunnel of I-95 and train tracks make this place unique and the fact a course this good fits in such a small piece of land is something you rarely see. Also cool logos that embody the train tracks, and the 1923 PGA Championship as shown on the flags. Scary 1st tee shot right next to pro shop, with ob left.
